Caleb's Norwood

We walked Caleb down to the operating room around 6:45. The anesthesiologist opened his tent for us to give him a kiss on his adorably spiked hair and then they turned one direction and we went to wait in the other. We were expecting a very long procedure and had the best company in all of Caleb's grandparents to sit with us, pray with us, and even laugh a few times. Although we knew it would be long, I don't think we had prepared ourselves for what was a TEN hour surgery. The nurse called every hour to update.
Dr. Mettler came walking out, looking quite exhausted, around 4:30 for his update on the surgery, although Caleb still was not out of the operating room. I just cannot thank God enough for our surgeon. What a blessing to have been given the gift to give a 6 day old the chance of life with a single ventricle heart! I just wanted to hug him! He said he can't do many more surgeries like Caleb's-- too long and took years off his life!
Overall, he was pleased with how everything went. He came off the heart lung bypass and then had to go back on as he needed to repair a part of the aorta that the coronary artery was resting on that he had repaired earlier in the day. Overall, he is optimistic. Little man looks restful, and we are expecting a significant amount of swelling. His chest was left open to help with this. Zack and i are so grateful for all the prayers today. We felt the love and support from near and far! We ask and are SO thankful for continued prayers!

  5. Hi Guys,
You were all such troopers, a difficult day of waiting, and we only hope you have gotten better rest today. Looking forward to the next post. Thank you for letting me peek in, it makes me feel better to check in on you and see that you are doing well, and see that you are as brave as ever! Prayers keep coming! Remember these important words always...

Philippians 4:6-7 ...Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

    Peace, Mariesa and Family
