GI Assessments

We completed a 24 hour Impedance Probe today and they did an Abdominal Ultrasound and an Upper GI to attempt to gather data on his reflux issues to formulate a plan to control it.  We've changed his formula this afternoon to one that has a rice component in it.  We are hoping and praying something works!
An update on his chair-  He loves it!  It is the perfect angle to help with his bloodflow and reflux.  Other bouncer seats do not even compare.  He screams when laid down in his bed, but does better in the chair (most of the time).  We cover the whole thing in blankets to protect it from his spit ups!!
Zack took the crew to get ice cream.

  1. Soooo many memories have come back to me as you and your family have been experiencing the ups and downs of Caleb's journey to recovery! I remember Will sitting in his car seat to sleep at night he had the reflux so bad...in those days the bouncy seats were more flat and were not well secured...just wish I had remembered that to pass on what worked for us in those days...over a decade has gone by and the memories start to fade about those difficult days of recovery. All three of our kids had colic and reflux. Will's Colic was not as bad as the Meds had been approved by the time he came around...but the reflux was pretty bad...I always had a .very special odor most of the time in those days Ha! We had a special beach towel with a hole in it that Jack would wear over his suit in the mornings when he would hold our babies...funny to look at but mighty practical.

We pray the oral feedings with rice will do the trick... we thickened the BM/formula combo with rice cereal to help keep it down and kept the head of his crib elevated with phone books and had a special wedge under the mattress as well as he got older....it did improve in time and we pray Caleb's will too!

  2. The reflux will get so much better when the feeding tube is out....one makes the other worse, but you can't have one with out the other at first....so frustrating, hope the results come back soon ...the waiting for answers is so very difficult.
